Protecting the Environment - 环境保护

大家好！

Recently in my Chinese classes I have been talking about the environment. It is a really good topic to learn about in Chinese as you can use lots of grammar structures and high-level vocabulary. This will be especially useful for any students taking exams, for example GCSE's.

Here are some examples:


1. 越来越

空气污染越来越严重了，特别是在大城市。

Air pollution is becoming more and more serious, especially in big cities.

越来越 is really useful when describing change over time, and can improve a students grammar as it cannot be directly translated into English.


2. 少 VS 多 and 为了

为了保护环境，人们应该少吃肉，多吃蔬菜。

In order to protect the environment, people should each less meat and eat more vegetables.

少 and 多 are so useful when describing more or less of something. In this situation, we can use them to describe the need for someone to do more or less of that thing.

为了 is a very useful word meaning "in order to do something".  It comes before the action it describes.

3. 如果...就

如果从海里捕捉太多的鱼，海里就不会有鱼了。

If we take too many fish from the sea, there will be none left.

如果...就 is a great way to describe cause and affect, which can be really useful when talking about humanity's impacts on the environment.

Vocabulary and Sentences

森林 - forest

砍树  - to cut down trees

破坏 - to destroy

大自然 - nature

亚马逊 - Amazon

海洋 - ocean

捕捉 - to capture (in this case fish!)

塑料 - plastic

因为很多国家正在发达，所以越来越多人用塑料了。
